![]() ![]() Increasingly, there will be multiple Garcia songs end-to-end.Īnd “Loser” is certainly one of the very best of the greatest stories told in a Hunter lyric. However, I am now finding myself running short of songs to rotate in between Garcia selections. But I would point out that there are dozens of songs which have yet to be the topic of a “Greatest Stories Ever Told” post, and that I have taken anything but a disciplined approach to the material.Įarly on, I tried to follow the rough patterning of a show, in which Jerry tunes would alternate with Bobby’s or other composers’ tunes, and until recently, that seemed to work. It’s true - I haven’t yet written about the song. I am grateful to have received, recently, a somewhat indignant email from a reader of this column, taking me to task for having “overlooked” “Loser.” (I’ll consider requests for particular songs-just private message me!) Therefore, the best part, I would hope, would not be anything in particular that I might have to say, but rather, the conversation that may happen via the comments over the course of time-and since all the posts will stay up, you can feel free to weigh in any time on any of the songs! With Grateful Dead lyrics, there’s always a new and different take on what they bring up for each listener, it seems. Well the Weight was exactly what we needed cause I for one was floating like a balloon at this point, sweet harmonies and overall rendition. Here’s the plan-each week, I will blog about a different song, focusing, usually, on the lyrics, but also on some other aspects of the song, including its overall impact-a truly subjective thing. I especially like like Jerry's midi to regular conversion here really get things going throughout. The Boys have some great exchanges and whop were into a Lovelight. Back down here on earth we find out the status quo hasn't changed and we are on our own and Throwing Stones. Once the doors are blown sufficiently wide enough to see, Jerry opens the his heart and out pours something Blue and Stella as in the star, not shooting but in solid form, check it out I havn't heard anything like it before or since. ![]() I need a fast and fierce Miracle bustin all doors and windows between shoreline and the Safeway down the road. If it don't bring tears to your eyes thinking this is the last bay area show for Brent then. Listen to Jerry's intro and subsequent playing. My personal comment: "I liked it a lot" Ok the bust out of space : I will take you home, with Brents baby sitting by his side is probably the best rendition ever of the song. I'll skip drums space cause face it we all have our moments in there while the fatty is passed. after that we get the meat and everyone makes up with Brent Powerfully leading into a very well thought out Playin which subtly goes to great heights like a sideways elevator into a superb extended Eyes that remains one of my favorite later explorations of the song. Truly nice Piccaso as mentioned before but I love Jerrys Ship O Fools response to the infighting. Iko Iko is a brilliant version note: Brents' interjections. Check out the rippin Promised land to close the first set. Everything in between that and birdsong is great classic Dead the Birdsong goes to new heights midisnobs need not apply. The first set highlights are Shakedown which gets off to a slow start but being the first song and clocking in at close to 16 minutes roars after the first few verses. I'm listening to this show and honestly it's a five star show even Picasso Moon is nice was really trying to get somewhere before Brent prematurely cuts it off. Not the high point of West Coast venues, but where else had enough seats to host NYE in the later years? At least the scene at the Holiday in was.interesting :-) The Colosseum had a LOT of Asshole security people which definitely screwed up the scene there, not to mention the rather detached feel of the place and the sound bouncing around to much. And of course the Greek was spectacular on a summer evening. Who can forget the sense of family at Henry Kaiser? What about the great vibe at Frost on the Stanford campus it was always the "good old days" there. Anyway, to refute an east coast-centric reviewer from a few years back who didn't think we had many great venues like the east, we actually had some of the best in terms of intimacy in the later years. Boy, would I love to go to the real thing tonight.been a long while, indeed. ![]() Like a lot of shows over the years, it is about having been there always superior to any tape. This was a fun show and it sounds pretty good here. ![]()
